Anatomy - AV block secondary to RCA occlusion

In majority of cases, the RCA supplies blood to the AV node via the AV nodal artery. Therefore, an RCA occlusion in a patient increases his/her risk for an atrioventricular block (AV block).

The ECG tracing on the right is obtained from a patient with a 99% stenosis of the proximal RCA. This tracing shows a prolonged PQ interval which is most probably caused by the lack of blood flow to the AV node.
